We have very high expectations for each child at Kalamia State School. Education is highly valued by our parent community who have high aspirations for each child.
Our vision is for our students to become confident, respectful, positive and independent lifelong learners. Often termed motivational or non-cognitive factors, the psychology of the student includes students’ beliefs about themselves, their feelings about school, or their habits of self-control. Whilst many schools focus on the curriculum, the academic content and students’ intellectual processing of that material, there is a wealth of research that clearly shows that this is insufficient.
Our students perform well in literacy and numeracy and in the National Assessment Program Literacy and Numeracy (NAPLAN). This is testament to the highly-skilled and dedicated teaching team who ensure every child is making at least a year’s progress in their learning.
The Ascot Music Program is highly valued and continually achieves excellence in local competitions. In 2022, the Senior Concert Band was awarded gold at Fanfare and at the Music Fest.
Students also have the opportunity to participate in a myriad of programs including Student Council; Gardening club; STEAM week activities; ; Art Club; Book Week competitions; Maker's Empire Program, Kalamia Arts Gala, Colls Lecturette Speaking Competition, Burdekin Show competitions, and more.
We pride ourselves on offering ‘something for everyone’.
